Mike Bell, a candidate for the State Legislature, sent the following message that I thought should be passed on --

As most of you know my wife and I have chosen to educate our five children at home. When I arrived home from work today I sat down at my computer and found this hand written short description of what America is to my seven year old daughter Michaela. I thought you might enjoy reading this. ( I did correct some spelling but I left the grammar as is.)

America is good because you can own a bible.
It is good because we vote to elect our officials.
And anybody can own a gun.
Anybody can own a house.
And you can have as many kids as you like.
You can become rich.
If you want to you can own a car.
That is why America is the best country in the world and why I like living here

Sounds like a Republican in the making. I was rather taken by the emphasis on 'can.' That word captures the essence of freedom. I'm touched that a seven year old could so poetically capture that.

Update: Turns out it was one of Mike's older children -- and it was just a draft. Still.
