Rep. Harold Ford, Jr., a candidate for the US Senate in 2006, voted against a bill passed by Congress yesterday that allows residents of Tennessee and other states without a state income tax to deduct sales tax contributions to a certain amount. The bill, which is incredibly popular in the state was passed in 2004 under the leadership of Rep. Marsha Blackburn and others. Ford previously praised the provision in the Commercial Appeal, and according to Blogging for Bryant, editorial boards for nearly all the state's newspapers praised the bill when it based last year. Today, Ford joined other Democrats in calling the renewal bill a "tax break for millionaires."
